Classification of computer
system
1. Computer hardware
2. Computer software
3. Computer firmware
4. Computer live ware
Computer hardware
The
physical accessories belongs to a computer system are called computer hardware.
They can be touched and seen, but cannot be taken apart easily.
Eg:-
keyboard, mouse, monitor. They are the main 3 computer hardware and the rest
are called computer accessories.
The
function of these components is typically divided in to three main categories:
input , output, and storage. Components in these categories connect to
microprocessors, specifically the CPU via wires or circuitry called bus.
Computer software
Computer
software is a collection of computer programs and related data that provide the
instruction step by step for telling the computer what to do and how to do it.
In other words, software is a conceptual entity which is a set of computer
program procedures algorithm and associated documentation concerned with the
operation of a data processing system. In contrast to hardware software is
intangible, means it cannot be touched.
Therefore a piece of software that can be run on a particular computer
system is properly designed to perform a specific task. Software is often
divided in two categories: system software and application software.
System
software: - Includes the operating system and all the utilities that enable the
computer to function.
Application
software: - includes programs that do real work for users. For e.g.:- word
processors, spreadsheets, and database management systems fall under the
category of application software.
